5 Summer handbag essentials

Summer is finally here, and that means a switch up on the beauty product front.

In winter I have a host of moisturising and nourishing products at hand, but in summer I want more waterproof and protecting formulas. For my handbag, I look for hard working, multi-taskers that minimize the number of products I need with me. These are the 5 products I’ll have in my handbag this season.

Obviously I almost always have sunscreen on me, and my current favourite is La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Tinted Fluid SPF50+ (R230). It had a very light texture, which means it’s comfortable on the skin and won’t leave it ashy. It has a tint to it, but gives a touch of colour rather than coverage, so makes a great makeup base. It’s also water resistant, so won’t run into your eyes by the end of the day.

I can’t bear wearing full coverage foundation in summer, as it feels like my skin is suffocating. So I steer toward lighter formulas and one of the best ones I’ve tried is Dermalogica Sheer Tint SPF20 in Medium (R730). The formula is by no means high coverage, but it does give light coverage with a subtle glow.

The hands and the neck often show the first signs of aging. This is because they are areas that are overlooked. Always take your skincare down your neck onto your décolletage and apply hand cream a few times a day. If you drive a lot, make sure you get one with SPF like my beloved Optiphi Renew Anti-Aging Hand Therapy SPF20 (R285).

You all know I love waterproof mascara, and it’s an absolute must for summer. My all time favourite has to be the Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof Custom-Wear Volume Mascara in Noir Hypnotic (R390). I’ve used it for years as the formula stays put all day and the bristle brush separates and lifts each lash without have to brush through with a spooly brush afterwards.

As much as I love wearing bright lips in summer, I much prefer to wear nude lips on a daily basis. I always have a tube of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant in my bag (all year round) to keep my lips hydrated and supple and then add my lipstick over the top. The nude shade I’ll be reaching for this season is Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick in Beige Trench (R155.95). The formula is soft and creamy but still has decent longevity. If you are a more of a bright lip girl, keep an eye out for my summer lips colour loves post in the next few weeks.
