As usual, essence has some pretty cool launches happening this summer.
For the complexion, there are 5 new launches to play with. And, as usual with essence, the colour options for darker skins are minimal (the problem with European brands, sadly.) I’ll pop how many shades each comes in at the end of each description.
Light Up Your Face Luminizer Palette in Ready, Set, Glow (R76.95) is a highlighter palette with 3 shades to highlight and accentuate your best features. There is a nude, matte shade, which is by far the most wearable, a pinky-rose shade in the middle which is just too shimmery for me (and probably most people), and finally there is a golden beige shade which has a hint of shimmer and will work well on darker skin tones. 1 Shade.
Get Picture Ready Brightening Concealer in Ivory (R57.95) is my favourite out of all the new products. It’s their answer to the L’Oreal Instant Age Rewind one, but actually available in SA! The formula is lightweight, yet has enough coverage to eliminate dark circles. 2 Shades.
Camouflage 2 in 1 Make-Up & Concealer in Ivory Beige (R69.95) is also good. It covers well, and I didn’t need to use a concealer with it. The formula takes a bit of work to get even – I found a damp Beauty Blender worked best, but once on, it stay in place all day. 3 Shades.
Get Picture Ready Long-Lasting Compact Make-Up in Matte Ivory (R76.95) was sadly my least favourite. I had high hopes it would replace the one MAC had years ago, but sadly not. It says it delivers ‘instant flawless finish’, which from far away it looks like it does, but up close it just sat in my pores and fine lines and was just not great. 4 Shades.
Satin Touch Blush in Satin Coral (R47.95) is one of three new shades. The formula is soft and velvety and blends easily. 3 Shades.
The eye category sees 4 new launches, including a genius eye-contouring palette.
The False Lashes Mascara Dramatic Volume Unlimited (R53.95) is not a bad mascara, but I found it lengthened more than it boosted volume, so in that sense, it doesn’t do what it says it does, but still a good, long-lasting formula. 1 Shade.
Contouring Eye Pencil in Caramel Meets Frosting (R47.95) was also not a hit for me. I found the formula very waxy and thick, so quite difficult to blend – I’d much rather opt for the palette, which I chat about below. 2 Shades.
The Metals Baked Eyeshadow in Frozen Toffee (R47.95) is just the most incredible shimmery little pot of goodness. All the shades are just as jewel-like and NYE party worthy. 9 Shades.
Contouring Eyeshadow Set in Mauve Meets Marshmallows (R47.95) is so flipping clever – you’ll never have to think about what to wear to work again. Each set comes with a neutral shadow and a darker one, so you can cover the entire lid with the lighter shade and contour into the crease with the darker one. The result is what looks like a natural smokey eye that will take you mere second to create! 4 Shades.
Lips are pretty much matte, bar a multi-tasking gloss that will be perfect for wind-free summer days (or for February if you’re Cape Townian).
BB Beauty Balm Lipgloss in Heartbreaker (R44.95) delivers colour, shine and nourishment in just one sweep of the tube! 5 Shades.
Matt Matt Matt Lipstick in Perfect Match (R44.50) has one of the best matte formulas I’ve tried. It’s light and creamy, but looks completely matte. It doesn’t leave the lips dry and is longwearing. A great first purchase if you’re wanting to get into matte formulas. 8 Shades.
Matt Matt Matt 2 in 1 Lipstick & Liner in Make Some Noise (R47.95) is another great idea. At first I wondered how on earth you’d sharpen it, but it basically sharpens itself as you go because you use the point as a liner and the long sides to apply to the rest of the lips. 5 Shades.
Matt Matt Matt Longlasting Lipgloss in Girl of Today (R44.50) are mousse-like in texture and finish beautifully matte. As with the lipsticks, it doesn’t dry out the lips and lasts ages, too.
Nails are not left out either. I love essence nail polishes and treatments, and this season is a bumper one.
All In One Complete Care Base & Top Coat (R39.95) mean you only need two products for a perfect manicure. Use this as your stain resistant, smoothing base as well as long lasting, high shine top coat.
Ultra Gloss Nail Shine Top Coat (R44.95) says it delivers mirror-like shine, and my goodness, that it does! If you like glossy nails, this is your queen.
XXL Nail Thickener (R39.95) is a godsend for girls with thing, brittle nails. This acts as a reinforcement to protect from breakage.
And finally there are quite a few The Gel Nail Polish shades to choose from, too. These are 6 of them, and you can pop over to their site and see the rest here.
