Urban Decay Prep. Prime. Set.

Urban Decay has seriously upped the ante in the prime and set field.

The new Prep.Prime.Set collection is solely focused on perfect makeup application and longevity.

There are two Prep Priming sprays, three setting sprays and four primers in total, but as quite a few are indicated for oily skin, these four are my favourite from the 9 product strong line up.

B6 Vitamin Infused Prep Priming Spray (R450) is basically a juice shot for your skin. It’s infused with vitamin B6 (the first patented topical vitamin B6 on the market), as well as other antioxidants and vitamins to keep your skin soft, supple and perfectly prepped for makeup, or not. It’s great to use on its own as a pick me up during the day. I find it helps my skin look more even, and helps to hydrate my skin before I apply my foundation.

I think my favourite product is the All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray (R450), which works like nothing else I’ve ever tried. It keeps your makeup in place for absolutely ages (they claim 16 hours – I haven’t tried it for that long, but it does work for a big night out). After a good 8 hours of wearing heavy makeup set with this spray, my makeup looked almost as good as it did when I first applied it. It really is as good as all the hype.

I have to admit that while I like the Urban Defense Complexion Primer SPF30 (R600), I don’t adore it. Not because it’s a bad product or that it doesn’t work, but because I just don’t have a need for it. The fact that they have created a completely clear SPF30 is incredible and I’m sure life changing for darker skinned girls, who have to deal with ashiness from traditional sun protection. But while I have tried the odd SPF that doesn’t play well with foundation, it hasn’t been a huge issue for me because I’m pale. Also, SPF 30 just doesn’t cut it, as I use SPF50 every single day. I do like the smoothing effect it gives to the skin, though, so I would recommend it for you have uneven skin tone and want a smoother-looking complexion with the added bonus of sun protection. But if you have your SPF sorted and are looking for a great primer, the next one is the one you’re looking for.

The Self-Adjusting Complexion Primer (R450) contains self-adjusting pigments that create a soft-focus effect on your skin. It’s like an Instagram filter for your skin IRL. I found I needed to use less foundation to get a flawless complexion, and my makeup stayed put all day. I even used it as a lid primer under eye shadow and it worked a treat, but I’d only recommend this in a pinch, as Urban Decay has the best eyeshadow primer known to man.

The Prep. Prime. Set collection is available now at Urban Decay Stuttafords Sandton, Foschini Eastgate and from
