Review | Lee Stafford Coco Loco
My hair hero range over the holidays has been the Coco Loco range from Lee Stafford. Enriched with coconut oil, the range took my salt water-ravaged hair from drab to fab in just one use.
If you rolled your eyes at the mention of coconut oil, don’t worry, I’m with you on that. I’m so glad the ‘coconut oil is a cure-all’ stage has died down. Fact is, in its natural form, it can clog pores, causing break-outs, and cause protein build-up on hair, making it brittle and dry. But included in well-designed formulas, it can be a savior for your hair.
The 5-product strong range is designed to target straw-like hair that has been over processed, damaged from heat or exposed to too much salt and chlorine. Oh, and each of the products smell like coconut holiday heaven!
I first tried the Coco Loco Shampoo (R129.95), Coco Loco Coconut Mask (R159.95), and Coco Loco Conditioner (R129.95). After just one use of each (I shampoo, mask, then condition), my hair literally felt and looked like silk. It was soft, manageable and unbelievably shiny, especially considering I swim in our salt-chlorinated pool every single day!
My scalp usually reacts to shampoos containing SLS, but it was fine with this formula. I used it for 3 weeks straight, and no hint of dry skin or itchiness.
The other two products are just as impressive, although my favourite is the Coco Loco Holiday Hair Hero (very well named) (R99.95). This light-weight spray protects your hair from fading or discolouring from UV rays, salt or chlorine. It helps to keep your hair knot-free, too, which in Cape Town is seriously useful. You spray it onto wet or dry hair and carry on with your day. I use it before I swim to protect my hair from the salt, as well as after if I’m not going to wash it, as it acts like a leave-in conditioner.
The final product in the Coco Loco Coconut Heat Protection Mist (R99.95), which I must admit I’ve only used twice because I hardly ever use heat on my hair. But it’s light-weight and non-greasy, so won’t weigh-down fine hair. It left my locks silky and shiny and definitely reduced frizz.
