The French beauty house launches the ultimate accessory duo. They aren’t saying that your lips and nails should match (très kitsch), but they should both be well groomed.
For lips, they have created the ultimate do-it-all product, which the press release describes as “the hybrid formula of Rouge Coco Stylo combines the intensity of a lipstick and the shine of a gloss with the melt-away texture, care and comfort of a balm. ”
This is absolutely spot-on. The nourishing ingredients in the formula make it incredible comfortable to wear and leaves the lips soft and supple. The colour payoff isn’t quite as deep as a lipstick, but it isn’t far off, and it lasts just as well. There are 7 gorgeous shades available: from tender pinks through nudes, bright reds and berry shades.
Nails are in for a treat, too with the new long lasting duo collection. Chanel reformulated their polishes, which many people were very happy about because of the chipping issue. Personally I loved the old formulas and never found them prone to chipping (a small miracle on my nails), but I understand that if you are paying R450 for a nail polish, you want it to last (ahem, are you listening, Dior?).
Anyway, back to the new duos; there are 15 shades in the range (11 brand new and 4 reformulated classics), each developed to be worn under the new Le Gel Coat.
This top coat is the key to the new super long-lasting results. The application guide explains you should apply a layer of Le Base (Chanel’s base coat), two thin layers of colour, followed by a thick layer of Le Gel Coat. A THICK coat, I thought, apprehensively while I was applying it. Thick coats of polish scare me, but incredibly, to dried very quickly with out smudging or miraculously getting fabric imprints on it.
I got a full 7 days of chip-free, shiny wear out of one application! This is truly a revelation in my nail routine, as I normally get 4 or 5 days with my Mavala (which isn’t bad at all, but who would love an extra few days?).
They are available at all Chanel counters now; the Rouge Coco Stylos for R630 each and the Le Vernis colours and Le Gel Coat for R450 each.
