Balmain Hair Couture Range
I never knew that Balmain had a haircare wing, but it’s been around for an impressive 40 years. I went to the South African launch of the range last year, and have been testing a few of their product for the last few months.
Argan Moisturising Elixir (R545 for 100ml)
What they say: Rejuvenating pure organic argan oil serum for lustrous-looking shine, gives an instant boost creating a smooth and healthy look without residue. The ingredients, Silk Protein and Argan Oil, stimulate an optimal moisture retention within the hair cell, repair and protect damaged, dry and weak hair from environmental extremes. The Styling Line has a wonderful signature fragrance, a unique blend of notes which will steal you away to the perfect summer’s day. Each time the products are used, they enrich hair with nurturing ingredients and fragrance hair with this mysterious, feminine and sexy scent.
What I say: You all know how much I love argan oil, and this version is a dream for those of us with fine hair. The formula is almost as light as a face serum, so absorbs almost instantly into the hair. Don’t apply it to very wet hair, though, as it will get lost in it. I apply it to damp hair, as well as to dry hair if it needs a moisture boost.
I’ve noticed an improvement in the shine and softness of my hair, and that’s coming from someone who has used argan oil on their hair daily for years!
Silk Perfume (R595 for 200ml)
What they say: Detangles and repairs damaged hair, providing long lasting, brilliant shine and protection against external damage. Specially formulated to provide a lightweight silk finish, infused with pure Argan oil.
What I say: This is an even lighter version of the Elixir, but with super detangling properties. I’ve been steering way from masking because they just need to much water (I’m Cape Town based), so I’ve been relying heavily on leave-in conditioners and dry shampoo. This adds much needed shine and helps to detangle any stubborn knots with ease.
Texturizing Salt Spray (R545 for 200ml)
What they say: Bodifying sea salt offers flexible hold, adds texture, control and is humidity resistant. A fresh summer style with texture is easily achieved with this product. Balmain Paris Salt Spray the perfect product for being bang on trend!
What I say: I’ve left my best until last. This is the BEST salt spray I’ve ever used, knocking my beloved Davines on off top spot. It just does everything it says on the tin, and I can’t imagine trying to style my hair without it.
It leaves the hair softer than before you applied it (I have NO idea how because it still works better than any salt spray), creates beautiful texture and it lasts all day. My hair even looks great the next day, too! My hair is fine but quite wavy, so maybe it’s just a perfect match for my type of hair, but it’s an absolute winner in my books. If you have my type of hair, and would like some ‘organised’ texture, you need a bottle of this in your life, stat.
