Optiphi Refine-Foliant (R725 for 10 X 5ml bottles)
Quite a few of you have mailed me asking how you can up your skincare routine without blowing the budget this year.
Great skin sadly comes with a price tag (except for a very lucky few who hit the genetic lottery), but it doesn’t have to cost thousands. There are a few clever ways that you can use effective skincare without hitting your credit card too hard.
Effective ingredients can be pricey, but using salon-quality products at home is a great way to get professional results at home, saving on trips to the spa. I’m going to do a series of posts on how to make your skincare routine more affordable, so I’m going to start with exfoliation.
My favourite product for serious exfoliation is the optiphi Refine-Foliant. It comes in 5ml bottles, which you’ll get 2 – 3 applications out of. You need to use the entire bottle within a week, though, because once it’s expose to air; it will start deteriorating. 5ml is more than you’d think, so I always use the excess on the back of my hands.
You leave it on for 5 – 20 minutes, depending on how strong an exfoliation your skin needs. Lactic acid softens and moisturises the skin, while salicylic acid works at removing dead skin cells. It also contains Vitamin C to give your complexion a radiance boost.
You might experience a slight tingling when you first apply the serum, but this will dissipate after a few seconds. I leave it on for the full 20 minutes (beauty eds feel nothing – our skin is like leather when it come to products like this), but I would recommend that if this is your first foray into acids, then just stick to the 5 to begin with. Rinse it off with warm water to reveal a soft, smooth, glowing complexion.
But please stay away from it if you are using skin-thinning medication like Roaccutane or Cortisone.
