I’ve personally never been afraid of bright lipstick. Most of my friends are terrified of wearing anything punchier than a tea rose pink (with the exception of my beloved Queen, who wears a scarlet red lip every single day. Love you T-Ricks).
But come on, girls, it’s just lipstick and makeup is meant to be fun and playful. I challenge those of you who normally shy away from bright lips to give it a try. Send me a DM on Instagram to show me how you’re wearing it.
I buy into the whole ‘find your red match’ idea. Just choose a colour you like and wear it with conviction. Yes, obviously some undertones will look better on certain skin types, but if you’re just venturing into the bold lip arena, the best way to start is to just wear it a few times to get used to it. Then you can start figuring out which shades and finishes suit you best. Generally speaking, matte formulas last longer than cream ones, but they are less hydrating. But because of this, cream formulas will have to be touched up more often than matte ones.
My advice is to wear a bright lip with very little else going on. Stick to clean, simple skin and maybe some mascara. That way the colour won’t have anything to clash with. It’s also a good idea to line your lips first, so that the colour doesn’t move throughout the day.
