Review | FOREO LUNA 3

It’s crazy to think that it was 7 years ago when I first used my FOREO LUNA 2 Mini, and I’ve used it every day since. That was until I got my hands on the brand new FOREO LUNA 3.

Bigger than its predecessor on my bathroom cabinet, the LUNA 3 is made from ultra-hygienic silicone. This silicone is 35 times more hygienic than nylon (the stuff brush cleanser heads are made of), is non-porous and quick-drying to ensure it prevents bacteria from lingering and breeding within the bristles.

It cleans the skin with clever technology that allows the device to work below the surface to help clean out pores and facilitate skincare absorption. These ‘t-sonic’ pulsations allow for a deep cleanse without disrupting the skin’s barrier. It’s so effective, it can remove up to 99.5% of dirt, excess oil and other daily grime.

The short bristles on one side and smart shape design allow you to get to every area of your face (even those tricky bits around your nose). The other side has waves of ridges designed to help your skincare products absorb better through low frequency pulsations that send the active ingredients into the skin, while boosting micro-circulation, and collagen and elastin production as a result.

The LUNA 3 is 100% waterproof, so is safe for use in the shower. It has 16 intensity levels, and can clean your whole face in just one minute. It has an auto-off function, as well as a pause every 15 seconds, so you can clean each quadrant of your face effectively.

The most remarkable thing for me about them, though, is the battery life – each charge delivers 650 single uses! I can attest to this, as I have never had to charge my LUNA 2 Mini more than once a year. How great?!

To enhance the effectiveness of your experience, each LUNA 3 is app connected so you can personalise your treatment routine to suit your skin’s needs. On top of this, the brand recognises that different skin types have different needs and goals, so they created 4 different variants of the LUNA 3: Sensitive, Normal, Dry and for Male skin.

They retail for R3300 each. I know it sounds steep, but remember that unlike other facial cleansing devices, the FOREO LUNA 3 is a once-off purchase. The bristles don’t wear-out, so there is no repeat replacement purchases necessary. And if your think of cost per use, you really can’t go wrong. If the Luna 3 lasts as long as my Luna 2 Mini (which is still going strong – I’ve passed it onto my daughter, who is loving it), then you are looking at just over R1 per use, and that’s if you only use it once a day, and only to cleanse. It’s well worth the investment, I promise.

FOREO LUNA 3 is available on Superbalist, Takealot and ARC.
