Review | Dr Schrammek Vitamin C Beauty Flash

Last year I was sent a new Vitamin C range to try. I’d never heard of Dr Schrammek products before, but turns out I should have.

Dr Christine Schrammek is a German dermatologist and allergologist with 60 years experience and she has an extensive skincare range that is now available in South Africa.

I was sent the Vitamin C Beauty Flash (R1695), a 2-Phase intensive vitamin C system. Vitamin C is tricky to stabilize as it’s very sensitive to air and UV light, which is why it is always either encapsulated or in a two-phase system so that you can use the fresh mixture before it becomes unstable.

A potent daily antioxidant, Vitamin C protects the skin from harmful environmental aggressors like UV rays and pollution. With extended use, it helps to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, boosts skin elasticity and regenerates the skin to lessen the depth of fine lines and wrinkles.

In her formula, Dr Schrammek has included Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate which converts to ascorbic acid once it penetrates the skin, eliminating any oxidation. A highly effective peptide called Matrixyl Synthe 6 and hyaluronic acid have been added to improve elasticity and boost collagen. The final active is a natural compound make up of moisturising, healing and restoring ingredients.

In the box, you get 3 7.5ml ampules, which you only activate when you need them. To active, you turn the cap and remove. There is a red button under the cap, which you press to release the powder into the liquid below. Replace the cap and shake to dissolve the powder. The press the dosing cap on for easy application

I used the full set, and got almost 10 weeks use out of the box (which is amazing considering Clinique’s version is R1100 for 28 days, and isn’t nearly as well formulated.)

I use Vitamin C everyday, but have never done a full-on intensive course like this. I was so, so impressed with the results. First of all, I didn’t have any reaction to the formula (Vitamin C is known irritant to the skin) and had no tingling when I applied it, either.

After two weeks of daily application (I applied it in the morning), I started to see a difference in my pigmentation, and by the 9th week, my skin was noticeably clearer, brighter and plumper. The texture had changed, too, and my other skincare penetrated quicker and I think helped it work more effectively, too.

You don’t need this is you’re in your 20s, but if you’re 30 and above and are concerned about pigmentation and fine lines, I’d definitely recommend trying this; it’s possibly the best two-phase Vitamin C product available on the market.
