Review | John Frieda Dream Curls

When I think of taming frizz, I automatically think of John Frieda. Arguably the biggest name in frizz control, Frizz Ease has probably graced nearly all of our showers at some stage.

I was recently sent the John Frieda Frizz Ease Dream Curls collection. I don’t have particularly curly hair, but it is wavy and I use other curl formulas to give my waves shape.

I got the Shampoo (R116), Deep Conditioner (R116) and Curl Defining Crème (R120). The whole range in enriched with nourishing, shine-enhancing Abyssinian Oil.

I loved the shampoo; it left my hair soft, shiny and gave my curls some great body. Sadly, because it contains SLS, I wouldn’t use it more than once a week. If I use SLS containing shampoo more often then that, my scalp gets really irritated.

I was excited to try the Deep Conditioner, as I normally love the John Frieda masks. While it did deeply nourish my hair, and left it feeling like I had just had a salon treatment, I just cannot stand the fragrance. It is so heavily scented that it actually made me feel ill. It stayed on my hair all day, and I rewashed my hair to get rid of it. The other products are scented as well, but this was just far too overpowering for me.

The Curl Defining Crème was by far my favourite. It defined my waves (actually made them curlier), gave them natural volume and didn’t leave the strands crunchy. A tiny bit goes a long way, so the 150ml tube will last months and months.
