How to: do a fishtail plait

I love fishtail plaits, and thanks to a youth spent riding horses, I’m a dab hand at plaits of all shapes and forms. A few of you have asked to see this post again, so here it is…

But so many of my friends can do normal and French, but have no idea how to do a fishtail plait.

So here’s a quick step-by-step guide:

  1. Divide the piece of hair you want to plaint into two sections.
  2. Take a small strand from underneath each half, bringing it outwards, and over the top, to the centre between the two halves.
  3. Let the section that you’re adding from hang free as you work downwards. The bits that you bring up and round will, in essence, wrap these pieces, and keep them in place.

My favourite way to wear this plait is messed-up and disheveled. Do this by gently pulling the plait outwards to loosen it. Set with hairspray.
