Maybelline turns 100: 1980 – 2000

Whoa! We’ve reached the 80s. The decade that saw makeup reach for new heights.

As more and more women headed out into the work place, so the demand for innovative, new products grew.

Maybelline answered these pleas by launching Moisture Whip Lipstick, Fresh Lash, Eye Writers and the Shine Free Oil-Control makeup line.

1990 saw the company sold again, this time to investment firm Wasserstein Perella & Co. This was the firm to coin the phrase: ‘Maybe she’s born with it, Maybe it’s Maybelline.’

Christy Turlington was the model face of the brand during this new dawn, along with the launch of the Shades of You collection – one developed specifically for women of colour. This meant women of all skin colours could get perfect skin – without looking ashy or chalky.

And as if that wasn’t enough, in 1993 they also launched the Revitalizing Face Collection for women over the age of 35.

Dream Bouncy Blush

My second favourite Maybelline product is Dream Bouncy Blush in Plum Wine. While it’s a very recent launch, I honestly couldn’t imagine my makeup routine without it.

It’s soft, mousse-like formula blend effortlessly into my skin and gives my cheeks the perfect rosy glow. It’s an absolute genius product that has he colour payoff of a cream blush with the lasting ability of a powder, but without drying my skin.
