2015 Hair Trends – the year that was

This past year was the year of extremes for hair trends. Here David Gillson shares his round up of the, ahem, highlights (sorry!) of the last 12 months.

COLOUR

The most extreme juxtapositions in the industry came from the colour arena. Tresses were either taken right back to 100% natural-looking hues in the form of glossy browns or honey blondes with golden highlights with balayage being THE method for achieving natural-looking tones.

Red Hair

Warm auburn, stretching into red tones also took the spotlight thanks to the likes of Emma Stone, Isla Fisher and Christina Hendricks.

Bright 2

Bright

At the other end of the spectrum, the arrival of Olaplex (read all about this ground breaking treatment here) saw locks literally explode with colour. Young and old alike can now sport rainbow hues that would make the My Little Pony herd jealous.

CUT

Lob

Two words: messy lob. Such was the popularity of this; no other look really got a look in edgeways. Everyone was sporting a lob: Olivia Palermo, Taylor Swift, Alexa Chung, Jourdan Dunn, Nicole Richie, Scarlet Johansson, Jessica Alba, the list literally goes on and on…

STYLE

Plaits

If hair wasn’t tonged into a messy lob, it was being plaited. Plaits, plaits, plaits. The schoolgirl staple made nothing short of a Cher-esque comeback in 2015. Seen on the catwalks at Milan, London, Paris and New York, this is trend that is probably going to be with us for a few more seasons.

Keep an eye out in the new year for David’s forecast of the biggest hair trends for 2016.
