Happy New Year, beauties. Can you believe it’s 2016? Nope, me either.
But as it’s here, I thought I’d run through my favourite products from the last year. Some are very old favourites and others have only been in my life a few months, but have made enough of an impact to be on the list.
Enjoy and let me know below if you’d like to see a skin, body, hair care one as well.
Primer: optiphi Set The Canvas. I love the non-greasy formula of this primer. It blends easily and keeps makeup in place all day.
Under Eye Concealer: Max Factor Masterpiece Under-Eye Concealer in Fair. I’ve been using this for a few months now, and am already on my second tube. The formula is light, but hides dark circles well.
Liquid Concealer: Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory. This isn’t available in SA yet, but it brightens the under eye area better than any other product I’ve tried.
Cream Concealer: Benefit Boi-ing in 01. The perfect concealer for days when you need heavy artillery. The formula covers EVERYTHING but still blends well and doesn’t crease.
Loose Powder: Catrice Prime and Fine Translucent Loose Powder. I love this powder. It’s incredibly fine and works a treat on dry skin.
Pressed Powder: MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15. I’ve reached for this on evenings out. It keeps everything in place.
Setting Spray: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water. So technically this is a primer, but I like to use it as a setting spray, and use it every day.
BB Cream: Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector in Light. It’s been a favourite for years, and 2015 was no exception.
Foundation: Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF15 in Beige. This foundation is just a match made in heaven for my skin. It’s light, yet delivers enough coverage. The formula is comfortable on the skin lasts all day, and actually leaves the skin feeling better after you’ve removed it than when you applied it.
Highlighter: Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish and Highlighting Perfector in 2 and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light. I opt for the Hourglass on days that my skin is behaving. It gives a subtle glow to the cheekbones. When my skin is dry, I switch to the Arden, which gives the same effect, but in a creamy formula.
Bronzer: Smashbox LA Lights in Venice Beach Bronze. A cream bronzer in a stick, with a texture to die for…it’s no surprise that this is a firm favourite.
Cheek Tint: Benefit Benetint. The original and best tint, ever.
Blush: Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Plum Wine. Half way between a mousse and a cream, this is one of my all-time favourite blushes.
Tools: Real Techniques Setting Brush and Expert Face Brush and Beauty Blender. Firstly, YAY that both these brands are now available in SA. I’ve loved Real Techniques for ages – the brushes are great quality and good value for money. The Beauty Blender is worth all the hype. Once you’ve tried it, you won’t be able to imagine ever doing your makeup without it.
EYES & BROWS
Brow Pencil: Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Natural Eye Brow Pencil in Brownette. Literally the best brow pencil I’ve ever used. (Not photographed because my last one finished on Christmas Day and I haven’t had time to repurchase).
Brow Gel: MAC Brow Set and Benefit Gimmie Brow in Medium Deep. The MAC has been a staple of mine for years, and I wear it most days. But on days when my brows need a boost, I opt for the tinted effect of Gimmie Brow.
Eye Primer: GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Primer. My eye shadow loves to travel, but this keeps it where it’s supposed to be.
Eye Shadow: Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Eye Shadow in Seashell and Shimmering Copper and Inglot Freedom Palette with 62, 452, 450, 326 and 402 Eye Shadows. All of these are repurchases. I wear the Arden shades almost every weekday along with the Revlon ones, and I adore the shades in my Inglot palette for nights out. (I had to repurchase all of these because I managed to drop and smash my last set). The Freedom System allows you to choose which shadows you want to include – that way you’ll love every shade in your collection.
Cream Eye Shadow: Revlon Illuminance Crème Shadow in Not Just Nudes. Yes, I know, more nudes, but truth is I’m pretty lazy when it comes to every day shadow, and these make it so easy.
Eye Pencil: Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer in Sable and Precious Gold. I rate these pencils above any higher end ones. The formula is richly pigmented and it lasts all day.
Liquid Eye Liner: Clarins Instant Liner in Black. Super black, high gloss with a tapered felt tip. What more could you want from a liquid liner?
Mascara: Nyx La Amoureux and Maybelline Illegal Length Waterproof. I wear the waterproof Maybelline most days, but I do switch it up with this winner from Nyx ocassionally.
Lip Treatment: Blistex Lip Medex. The lip treatment I have used every night for 4 years.
Lip Balm: Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Nude Shimmer. I use this on days when I don’t feel like wearing any colour on my lips. There are 6 shades but this one is my favourite.
Lip Gloss: Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque in Appêchissant. This formula is super shiny, light weight and lasts much longer than regular glosses.
Lip Pencil: Bourjois Contour Edition Lip Liner in Nude Wave and Tout Rouge. Another lip win from Bourjois. These lip liners are waxy, but still create a perfect base for lipstick.
Lip Stain: GOSH Long Lasting Lip Marker in Red and Berry. Can’t be fussed to reapply your lip colour? You need a few of these stains in your life – they last for hours and hours.
Lipsticks: Smashbox Be Legendary Matte Lipstick in Fireball and Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Moisturizing Matte Lipstick in Raspberry. I had a bit of a matte year for lipstick, and these two were my most worn shades.
Colour: Topshop Nails Blue Rinse. Do I really need to explain my love for this cornflower hue?
Nude: Bourjois So Laque Glossy in Oh So Rose. The perfect glossy pinky-nude.
Base Coat: Mavala Protective Base Coat. Mavala treatments are some of the best on the market, and this base and top coat combo makes my mani last for 10 days.
Top Coat: Mavala Strong Flexible Top Coat. See my love above.
Nail Oil: CND Solar Oil. I use this at night to keep my nails healthy and strong.
Cuticle Oil: The Body Shop Almond Nail & Cuticle Oil. This lives in my handbag to keep my cuticles nourished during the day.
