July Favourites

Guys, it’s August! I’m having a baby this month! I normally do favourites videos for you, but I get too out of breath at the moment to be able to do one, so an old skool written version will have to do.

I’m going to be doing a pregnancy update and favourites in the next few weeks for those of you who are interested to see which products actually work, so keep an eye out.

I’m going to start with makeup; and I mentioned these many times before, but they honestly are one of the nest launches of the last few years. The Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolors are simply incredible! They go on quite creamy, but soon dry down to a soft matte finish. The colour lasts for hours and, more importantly fades evenly. I can’t bear the 90s R&B singer lip line you can get with some other long lasting formulas. There are a few shades to choose from (I tried to find out how many, but the local Revlon site never works for me – anyone else have this issue?), but the colour spectrum is well covered; from nude through to berry.

Next up is another oldie but a goodie in the form of Rimmel’s Match Perfection Foundation. I use the lightest shade (obviously), Ivory. I’m a huge fan of Rimmel foundations anyway (I love the Wake Me Up, too, but it isn’t available in SA). This one is a great everyday foundation. It gives light to medium coverage and contains clever technology that allows the foundation to adapt in any light – delivering perfect-looking skin wherever you are. I would say that it’s better for normal to dry skin, as the formula is quite hydrating, so oily skins may not get on with it.

Now onto skincare, and I’m going to start with LetiBalm Fluid. This relatively new launch had helped my lips through winter. It protects and nourishes while delivering a gloss-like finish. I’m not going as far to say it’s replaces Eight Hour Cream or anything, but if you’re not an Eight Hour fan, this is a great alternative for keeping your lips soft and supple. (It works well for dry patches around the nose, too.)

Ok, so you all know about my deep love for Bioderma’s Sensibio; and now I have extended the love affair to the brand’s Hydrabio collection. Candice Lee from In My Bag and I were babbling on like idiots the other day at a launch about our LOVE for the Hydrabio Moisturising Mask. But we really don’t care how mad we sound – it is that good! If you have dry skin or your complexion is look a little lack lustre from the winter, I suggest you hot foot it down to Clicks and get yourself a tube of it. Either use it as a regular 10 minute mask, or leave it on overnight for a deeply nourishing treat!

Staying in the French pharmacy area, I’ve discovered a new sunscreen this month. Uriage (another brand I love) was on 3 for 2 offer at Clicks, so as well as my usual eye and face cream, I also got a tube of the Bariésun SPF50+ Cream Very High Protection. It’s just fabulous – it has a very light texture and disappears into the skin, making it a perfect base for makeup, but you won’t look like a ghost if you wear it alone, either. It plays well with all of my foundations, too, which is quite rare for a high protection sunscreen.

Now onto a fragrance that I honestly didn’t think I’d love as much as I do. It’s optiphi’s debut scent, Adagio. I wrote a post about it, and, don’t get me wrong, I liked the fragrance, but I’ve actually worn it almost every day since. It’s fresh and uplifting, without being overly…well, anything. It’s not overtly citrusy or floral or spicy, it’s just fresh. A clean scent that is by far my current favourite.

And finally, a bit of a random one, but it’s pregnancy related, so bear with me. It’s the Rehidrat Sport in Lemon and Lime. Yep, good old Rehidrat now has a sport version. Those of you who haven’t been pregnant will find this bizarre, but those of you who have will, I’m sure, understand the ridiculous thirst. Guys, it’s almost overwhelming. You can drink glasses and glasses of water, and still not feel hydrated. But these sachets have kept me sane the last few months, so I thought they were worth a mention, especially seeing that they are actually designed for sport recovery, I thought the sporty amongst you might like to know they exist. You can get the sachets in boxes of 6 at all leading pharmacies etc. There is also a naartjie flavour, but lemon and lime is more my thing.
