{ Style } Superbalist Winter ’17 Shoes

A public holiday in payday week during the change of season calls for one thing, and one thing only.

Yep, online shopping! I adore shopping for winter, I’m not really sure why, but I find it far more exciting than summer shopping. Maybe it’s the vast range of textures or that I prefer darker shades to brighter ones. Whatever the reason, I know my heart skips a beat with the first sight of a parka or this season’s take on velvet.

I’ve always been a bit of a shoes and accessories fiend, so when Superbalist asked me to round up my favourite shoes of the season, I thought it would be rude not to.

It’s a pretty mixed season for shoes – from far out and radical to understated and elegant. It took a while to whittle it down to just five, but after much deliberation, these are my top picks for winter.

Star Ankle Boots by Missguided (R899)

I adore these ankle boots from Missguided. I realise that suedette is not the most practical for Cape Town winters, but the stars more than make up for it. The vintage cowboy styling means that they’ll be relevant for any season and slightly rounded toe makes them infinitely more wearable than traditional cowboy boots, too.

Lara Boots by Billini (R1199)

I remember having over the knee boots in high school, and I lived in them. When the finally died, the trend had past, and I couldn’t find any to replace them with. So I’m so happy that they have made a return. This time round though, instead of black, I think khaki is the way to go. It’s just as versatile as black, but adds a bit of colour if your happen to be in an all-black ensemble. I chose these specifically because they have an inner leg zip and elasticated thigh section, so they are easy to put on and will stay up while I’m wearing them.

Leopard Boot by Dailyfriday (R499)

I’m not sure these need any explanation? I have leopard print loafers that I wear at least twice a week in summer, so it just makes sense that I have a winter appropriate option for winter.

Aria Printed Heel by Glamorous (R699)

These classic block heels have an art décor meets Alaia feel that I love. And let’s face it; there are few outfits that can’t be improved with little black heels. These will be a closet staple for years to come.

Kimmy Slide by Sol Sana (R1399)

I’ve never been a fan of slides (except the sports one that you wear from the swimming pool to the change room), but I’m really drawn to these. I’m not sure how I’d style them in winter, but my feet don’t really feel the cold, so I’d probably wear them with little net socks (on dry days, obviously). They are comfy, but look smart at the same time – totally office appropriate for days when you can’t be bothered to wear heels.
