Elizabeth Arden Eyes Wide Open

Elizabeth Arden is having a spectacular year. Their makeup game is so strong.

First there was Tropical Escape, and now there is Eyes Wide Open; a comprehensive eye collection, and they aren’t done yet, so keep en eye on the site for more news.

Following on from the customization trend I’ve been chatting about for the last few months, the collection’s hero product is the Little Black Compact that can hold two eyeshadow trios, enabling you to create your own perfect palette. No more wasted shades! And you can change them whenever you need to. Each compact also contains a normal mirror as well as a magnifying one – clever!

There are 10 trios available, all of which are super-wearable; not a neon bright or ‘trendy’ shade in sight. The most obvious choice is to have a daytime colour way on one side and a nighttime one on the other, but you can do what ever you want. The formula is long-lasting, non-creasing and even nourishing to the skin thanks to a host of hydrating and light-reflecting ingredients. It glides on, blends well and lasts all day. There is a mix of metallic, shimmer and matte finishes, too. What else could you want from an eyeshadow?

You can get a full Little Black Compact (two eyeshadow trios and the compact) for R770 or buy the trios individually for R385 each. For reference, I have two compacts, and chose, in the left palette: Forever Plum and Love Of Grey; and in the right: Not So Nude and Leaves of Green.

Of course no eye look is complete without mascara, and the Lasting Impression Mascara is an absolute winner! I thought the Grand Entrance Mascara was my fave Arden one, but not anymore. The brush looks bizarre; with five bumps running along the length. These help to grab and lift each lash, coating them evenly. I don’t normally love non-waterproof formulas, as my lashes don’t hold a curl, but they stay curled, glossy and smudge-free literally ALL day.

It is only available in one shade; Lasting Black and is R365.

To finish the look, the brows get a polish, too. I’ve discovered so many great brow products this year, and the Statement Brow Brow Gel is another.

The formula contains ingredients to define, fill, condition and control your brows. I love the fat brush, which allows for precise, even application. It is available in 4 shades (Blonde, Honey, Brown and Deep Brown) and retails for R285.
