5 best foundations with SPF

Let’s get this straight from the start – I always apply sunscreen before my foundation, but I know there are some of you who don’t.

For those of you who do wear sunscreen (well done), it’s important for you to know that if you apply SPF30 sunscreen, than add a foundation that is SPF15 on top, you do not have SPF45; you still have SPF30.

So, I have these foundations in my collection because I love them, not because of their SPF, but am sharing them in the hope that those of you who don’t wear sun screen will try one of these next time you’re in the market for a foundation – a little is far better than nothing in my opinion! These are all best suited for dry to normal skin, except for the Clarins which works well on all skin types.

Chanel Le Beige Healthy Glow Foundation SPF25 (R785 )

I struggle to find words to explain this foundation. It is honestly one of the best foundations on the market for my skin. It evens out the skin tone, but it looks like you’re not wearing foundation at all! It really is a ‘your skin but better’ foundation.

Rimmel Match Perfection Light Perfecting Radiance Foundation SPF18 (R135 )

It’s not very often I find a foundation of this caliber on the high street. It has that clever adjusting formula (like those bright pink lip balms you used to get when we were kids – but more grown up) that adjusts itself to create the perfect shade for your skin tone.

Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Foundation SPF30 (R650 )

The newest in my collection is already a firm favourite. Let’s be honest, what would an anti-aging foundation be without a SPF? The formula is super-hydrating and delivers light to medium coverage.

Clarins Ever Matte Skin Balancing Foundation SPF15 (R445 )

I checked, and this is the only matte formula foundation I have in my collection (which is rather substantial). When it first comes out the tube it looks almost chalky, and that it would be better suited to grouting, but it melts into a beautiful velvet finish that doesn’t dry the skin, sit in wrinkles or amplify pores.

Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30

Ok, so this isn’t technically a foundation, but it delivers more coverage than some foundations, so I’m allowing it in. There are so many of us dreaming of the day when Nars finally launches in SA, but for now we’ll have to make do with ordering it online here or begging visitors or travelling friends to bring it to us. This formula is so soft and hydrating that it feels like you’ve applied a full-on moisturiser.

That’s all of them; I hope you’ve seen one that takes your fancy for your next foundation purpose. Or better still though – just start wearing sunscreen today. I promise you’ll be thanking me in 20 years.
