Another week, another antioxidant based skincare launch. I’m definitely not complaining, though. Our skin needs all the help it can get against the daily aggressors that want to damage it.
We are all aging all the time, and there is nothing we can do to change chronological aging, but we can help ourselves in the biological department. That is the aging caused by lifestyle, and yes, physiological age comes in here, but we can definitely control what we eat, how we sleep and how we look after our skin.
While diet, exercise, sleep and metal health are not easy or quick to take care of, protecting our skin can be. As I’ve explained before, free radicals are justatoms with a missing electron, and their only goal is to find another electron so it can become a pair. The problem is that they will scavenge out any electron, from anywhere. They are all around us, in air pollution, pesticides, fried foods and tobacco smoke. These invisible particles cause oxidative stress in the body and can damage cells, proteins and even our DNA. Free radical damage has been linked to illnesses like cancer, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s to name a few. They also cause damage to our skins, and ultimately age us.
This is where using antioxidant based skincare makes simple sense. Antioxidants are basically the free radical police, and they prevent free radicals from poaching electrons from healthy cells by giving them one of their own, essentially neutralizing the threat without becoming free radicals themselves.
Lamelle has developed Nourish, an anti-aging range aimed at protecting the skin from free radical damage and repair recent DNA damage caused by free radical damage. The formulas are able to do this thanks to a powerful antioxidant complex and clever DNA-correcting enzymes that work at a cellular level to repair damage and balance the skin.
I tested the Lamelle Nourish Revitalise Cream (R605) as both a day and night cream, and my word, the results were incredible. My skin was smoother and plumper after just two weeks – quite a feat on a skin that is constantly testing products. It felt more resilient and was far less reactive to the relentless Cape Town wind.
The other product I tested and loved possibly even more is the Lamelle Nourish Revitalise Eye (R605). Talk about do what it says on the tin! It honestly did ‘revitalise’ my entire eye area. It contains ingredients that help lymphatic drainage, so there was not a puffy day the whole time I tested it. It also plumped out the fine lines around my eyes –I always put eye cream close to the lash as possible, and this didn’t sting once, so suitable for those of you with sensitive eyes, too.
The range also includes Nourish Revitalise Lite (R500), a lightweight version of the Revitalise Cream; Nourish Rescue Repair (R425), an SOS treatment; Nourish Multi-Active Sun 30 (R500), with broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection, and Nourish Daily Cleanse (R260), a foaming cleanser.
