5 Recent Rediscoveries

I guess this is like a ‘shop my stash’ video, but in blog post form.

As you all know, I had a baby 3 months ago, and have recently been loving rediscovering old skincare (and a fragrance) that I couldn’t use while I pregnant, either because they had ingredients that aren’t safe during pregnancy and others because my skin was just not getting on with them.

First up is my beloved Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel (available here). This is probably my all-time favourite cleanser. The formula has a host of actives that repair and protect the skin while cleansing, but the best ingredient is pumpkin enzymes that gently slough away dead skin. Sadly, my skin was just too dry and reactive to use it while I was preggers, so I’m delighted that I can use it again. It removes all traces of makeup with ease and leave the skin feeling soft and supple.

The next products are strange ones because they are super nourishing and moisturising, but yet my skin was just not happy with them. It went greasy and spotty when I used them.

I adore my Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Eye (I see them as one product because I would never use the one without the other). They are one of my ultimate overnight treatments (second only to Sisley Black Rose Mask). The eye cream is a light cream that absorbs quickly and miraculously gives you bright, perky eye areas first thing in the morning. The Concentrate does pretty much the same thong for the rest of your face. The nourishing oil penetrates quickly and you wake up with a complexion that just looks juicy and fresh.

Ordinary Skincare Plain Ordinary Moisturising Balm is one of those wonderful ‘does it all, no nonsense’ products. It’s a thick balm that melts down into an almost oil-like consistency when applied to the skin. It will moisturise and protect any dry skin on your face or body.

I’m sure you’re all aware of how much I love my Optiphi Intense Retinol Serum, but as retinol is not safe to use during pregnancy, I haven’t been able to use it this year, so am mighty glad to get some Vitamin A back onto my face. I only use it twice a week, but it really does make a huge difference to the texture and tone of my skin.

I thankfully wasn’t put off too many fragrances with my pregnancy sense of smell, but one that I just couldn’t deal with in the last two months was The Body Shop Italian Summer Fig EDT. Happily it’s back with a vengeance and I’m using it almost as much as I did last year (which is a LOT).
