New | Cape Island Clifton Beach
This year, I’m making a concerted effort to discover new local brands. One that I’ve loved for a few years is Cape Island – they make the most incredible home scents and decor, and have now branched out into body care.
They very kindly set me a few bits at the end of last year, and it was a scent of theirs I hadn’t tried before. Inspired by the Cape coastline, Clifton Beach will instantly transport you to long summer days at the beach. An intoxicating cocktail of coconut, lime zest and tolu balsam, this scent is good enough to eat.
I’ve had a few of their candles, and they all last for ages, burn evenly and release their scent so that it fills the room (many scented candles only smell of their scent in the jar, but don’t actually release it when burnt). My favourite is Safari Days (a heady mix of patchouli and sage), but Clifton Beach is now a close second. My Clifton Beach Mini Candle (R120) is now a feature on my desk and I burn it while I work. As a guideline, the mini candles burn for around 12 hours, the classic ones for 35 hours and the large for around 55 hours.
The new discovery for me was their Hand Cream (R95). Good grief, it’s good! I’ve tried dozens of hand creams over the years, so for me to be impressed by one takes some doing. The formula is lightweight and absorbs instantly without leaving any greasy residue, and the scent lasts for hours! If fresh coconut scents aren’t for you, the Hand Creams are available in each of their 5 scents.
I adore the aesthetic of the brand, as it fits perfectly with our home’s decor. A little bit African, and a little bit mad. When my husband saw it, he asked if I’d had the products specially made ?.
Not only does the brand create beautiful products, they also have beautiful hearts, working closely with charities to give back. Each of their fragrance collections supports a different local non-profit – to find out more about the work they do and the charities they support, pop over to their website here.
If you want to get your hands on some of their gorgeous products, you can shop the whole range on their website here. They ship worldwide, and if you are based in Cape Town, you can collect from their offices in Diep River.
